Kaylen James

Kaylen James is a PhD candidate in American Studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she is a member of the Critical Indigenous Studies Cohort. She earned a BA in American Studies and an MA in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development, both from the University of Minnesota. Kaylen is Itazipco, Oglala, and Sicangu Lakota and Isanti Dakota, and is an enrolled member of the Santee Sioux Nation of Nebraska. Broadly, her research interests include Indigenous critical theory, Oceti Sakowin studies, relationality, liberalism, settler modernity, new media studies, fame & celebrity culture, and race & technology. In her free time, she dabbles in stargazing, bird watching, and writing poetry; but mostly, she enjoys spending time with her family and cat.
